    Hi,

now there is another new groupe here at fernstudium-infos.de - the reason for founding this group are my efforts in keeping my english alive.

About three years ago my english was very good, due to my last job. I had regularly contacts with international suppliers, especially from India.
Nowadays my customers are only national, so there is no use in speaking english at the job.

Besides my academic studies I am trying to learn some spanish and improve also my english.
For bothe I use the internet community www.babbel.com - for learning spanish I bought also a self learning book from Langenscheidt.

Let's see how this is working in the next month.

Maybe you may also tell us your story how you keep your english alive.

P.S.: Please do not mind my english - especially my grammar needs some polishing

Since I left school, I had no use for english language. The result: my english is very bad, I am missing so many simple words and without using a dictionary I am not able to write a "normal" text. It`s a pity!
For a short time I read English Blogs, such as zenhabits and I hope it helps a little bit.

It`s really difficult for me to write in English, wow...

    Hi there,

I´m very glad, that chillie suggested this group to me, because I also like to improve my english.

I´ll see, if I can achieve any progress by attending a BEC Vantage Course at the Volkshochschule (?), combined with reading some english detective stories with teaching backround.

    Good luck to everybody!!

    Hi,

this group is a great idea. Thank you, chillie.

During my distance study I tried to improve my english (read Business Spotlight, watched english news and movies, learned vocabulary etc.). Today I only read some english blogs (Zen To Done, ProBlogger).

Idea: We need someone with goog english in this group to correct our mistakes...

    Where's the inquisition?

Maybe some of the OU students may help us?

When I left school in 1999, my English was quite good, having done an English advanced course ("Leistungskurs") at school.

I really did quite some efford after school to keep the level in English and also in French - about 0.5 to 1 hour per day with vocabulary and grammar and I did a Cambridge Certificate in English with excellent marks. But as I didn't need any of my language skills at work ... my motivation faded ... and also the level ... well ...

During the last years, I did some translating and also had meetings in English language, but no regular things. So today I really struggle when I have to go to headquaters of my company for a meeting with italian, indian, norwegian people etc. Hey, but in many cases, I realize that my English is not as bad as I thought, compared to others!

Sometimes - at home - my man and I we have an "english speaking day/afternoon", for example while cooking, shopping and so on. Not on a high level of course, but we simply try not to say anything in German.

Hey, we also try this from time to time ... quite fun, but I don't know if this is improving my english really

uhm, maybe it doesn't improve your grammar, but if we both don't know words we need, we visit LEO or his cousins in the internet and check the vocabulary.
    Better than nothing

Wow, what a traffic in here ...

I'm just thinking about buying a new audio book: "twilight" ... And why not in English language? I already bought some English audio books and liked most of them. The only thing is: they are really expensive
German audio book ist about 14,99 Euro, English edition almost 27 Euro

Do you know any marketplace where I can get cheaper English books/audio books?
