ZitatThe Risk Type Compass is a measure of risk personality. We are surrounded by risk and uncertainty and we each deal with it in our own way. Perceptions of risk, and reactions to it, are shaped by two aspects of human nature; Emotion and Cognition. Emotion is about our feelings, anxiety, fear, apprehension – triggered by insecurity, threat or danger. Cognition is about making sense of our world; our ‘need to know’; a preference for order over chaos. Natural variation in both ensures a wide variety of individual risk dispositions. The Risk Type Compass places you within a 360° spectrum of risk dispositions. To facilitate interpretation and communication, this is segmented into eight Risk Types and the Axial Group. Your position on the Risk Type Compass reflects the interaction between your emotional sensitivity and your need for order, structure and predictability. There are two points to bear in mind in reviewing this report: Firstly, that there is a broadly even incidence of Risk Types within the population as a whole. Secondly, no Risk Type is better or worse than any other. Differences can be significant, but they will also be complementary and will have contributed to the survival of our species. Within any group or organisation, a diverse balance of Risk Types will nearly always be beneficial. PCL Feedback Report
ZitatWARY RISK TYPE CAMEO
At the root of this Risk Type are high levels of risk aversion. Their risk antennae are sensitive to any kind of threat. They are also troubled by ambiguities or uncertainties concerning their situation and the options and choices available to them. The experience of these vulnerabilities drives a methodical approach and a shrewd and persistent scepticism. Cautious and demanding of themselves, they are very organised and well informed. With predictability and security at the top of their agenda, they rein in any adventurous impulses. They protect themselves by being cautious, prudent and well informed. Their ardent desire for a risk-free future, combined with an almost insatiable need for reassurance, may leave them chasing an unattainable ideal. Mistrustful of the ability of others to deliver to their exacting expectations, they prefer to take charge themselves and to maintain control of events. Their passion and determination make them a formidable influence.
At a general level, the Wary Risk Type has concerns about security and uncertainty. They will be alert to the risk element of any idea or innovation and dubious about the benefits promised. They have a need for certainty and like to know precisely what they can expect. They are not naturally adventurous or emotionally resilient but are likely to find security and comfort in convention and tradition.
Finally It is important to bear in mind the generalisation that every personality characteristic has potentially negative implications as well as benefits. Self-awareness increases our ability to manage our natural dispositions, our personal reputation, and our effectiveness. PCL Feedback Report
